Data Conversion problem

I am trying to do data conversion with SIL converters. I have downloaded the linguistics tab and have SIL converters downloaded on my computer, but when I highlight a selection and try to do data conversion, I get this error code: Library error: [WinError 193] %1 is not a valid Win32 application.

Has anyone run into this issue? I believe I have all the right things downloaded on my computer, but I just can’t get it to work.

I only understand the “train station”, but can it be that you have installed 64-bit LibreOffice and this doesn’t match your other components?

What are “all the right things”, to your belief?

The error message may indicate that you can only run the product in conjunction with the 32-bit version of the office suite. Select “Windows (32-bit)” when downloading. The message could also mean that the library/system is 64-bit, but your OS is 32-bit. In that case, you need to upgrade your system.

I don’t know the SIL software, but the info on their web pages indicates that it is meant for MS Office, not LibreOffice.

There is an unsupported (but possibly working) plugin for OpenOffice. You may need to use the 32-bit version also in this case. Still, not all plugins created for OpenOffice will work with LibreOffice.

Hey, someone asked about my project! First time on this site…

Anyway, the current state of affairs on Windows is that the SIL converters installer has not been updated to 64-bit yet. The code has been updated, but a new installer needs to be built.

To get it to work, one solution is to go back to a 32-bit version of LibreOffice. The latest version of LibreOffice can still be downloaded as 32-bit.

However, it may be better to use newer versions instead. Install FieldWorks 9, which contains a 64-bit build of the SIL Converters core. You may need to uninstall the SIL Converters application so that it doesn’t conflict with the newer libraries in FieldWorks.

if they somehow need to be uploaded into LibreOffice?

No, the LingTools add-on uses the same encoding converters as FieldWorks or SIL Converters.

EDIT 2020-06-01:

The code has been updated.

The encoding converters core has been updated. However, there is a different repository for the applications (Clipboard Converter, Bulk Converter et cetera), and that code has not been updated yet. The installer also needs to be updated, as mentioned above.

Thanks Jim. I installed FieldWorks 9 and it works great now!
