Table numbering

Hello, I have additional question related to this post.

There are two chapter numbering created by Outline numbering.

1 Chapter header
1.1 Sub header
1.1.1 Sub sub header

A Chapter header
A.1 Sub header
A.1.1 Sub sub header

But inserted table (picture, formula) inside chapter A has caption “Table 1.1” instead of “Table A.1”.

Is there any solution, how to fix it?
(Of course, I want to insert tables inside chapter 1 too, so changing of Levels in Outline numbering doesn’t help).

Thanks for asking this in a separate question.

Ensure you have field shading turned on (CTRL+F8). There should be two fields in the caption: “1.” and then “1”. We want to replace the “1.” bit. You can do this for existing captions by:

1. Highlighting this initial part.
2. Insert > Fields > Other… (or CTRL+F2).
3. Document tab > select Type of “Chapter”; select Format of “Chapter number”; and set the level appropriately (e.g., from the previous thread you link this will be “5”). Click Insert and Close.

To insert new captions correctly:

1. Right-click the image > Caption… > on the Insert Caption dialog:
2. Enter meaningful caption text.
3. Click the Options… button.
4. On the Caption options dialog set the Level appropriately (e.g., from the previous thread you link this will be “5”). Click OK.
5. On the Insert Caption dialog, click OK.
