saved files to usb drive. files could be opened when I started saving files - @ a year ago. now I get error msg.

which one and using which LibreOffice version on which operating system (and why do you assume this being a problem of LibreOffice; could you copy a saved to your local disk and open the copied file?)
Your drive may have gotten corrupted. Try plugging it to a different computer. If the problem persists, no luck.
