Tables in Impress

I have not so positive experience when working with tables in Impress. I just wonder if I am the only one?

  • For example, if I select complete table and I want to change font or fontsize, I cannot. I have to click on each cell and change, or copy it to Writer, change font there and copy it back to Impress. This could be due tables are copied from Impress but were created in Power Point.
  • Another think, it is very slow to edit tables (I figure out that speed increase if I disable Use Hardware Acceleration and Anti-aliasiang), but then it does not look nice.
  • Sometimes, borders of the tables are hard to change. I select table and go to Borders and change borders width, color etc… when I click Ok, nothing happens. But then if I decide to change size of the table, they appear (sometimes).
  • Sometimes borders of the tables are visible, and not sometimes not. For example, borders existed… I go to another slide, do something else, come back and they dissapered. I had to click on table and then they appear…
  • If table is white with black border… inserting another column to the right (last column) will provide me blue column… should Impress copy the style of previous columns and applied it to the new one?

Impress is fantastic program, but these are some think I noticed when working with tables. I would appreciate if you can report the same thing, so we can figure out when it happens and to report them.

Hi Ljiljan,

I have the same problems (except the speed problem), you need good nerves to use tables in impress. But I would rather not heed mariosv advice: embedding a calc table is much worse: editing the table after embedding has often made the table unusable for me, as rows and / or columns become invisible etc.

Hi Ljiljan,

  • If you right-click on the table border an select Table, you can change the Font - Font Effects - Borders - Background for the all table.
  • I can not said is slow for me, except when exiting from the table. Try with the memory settings in Menu/tools/options/LibreOffice/Memory at least the set up with 256 the memory used for LibreOffice. And reducing the undo steps sometimes help, about 30 could be enough.
  • Maybe you can find better work with Menu/Insert/Object/OLE object, where you can use on of the other LibreOffice app embedded in Impress.
