Shift cells left in table in Writer

As the title suggests, how do I delete cells - shift cells left in a table in Writer?

For a particular precedent document I use a complicated paragraph alignment with indentures from the right hand margin depending on the list indenture on the left hand side. This has best been served by tables when originally crafted in Word and using shift cells left.

I am not entirely certain what you are trying to do. Given a table like this:

+---+---+---+
| a | b | c |
+---+---+---+
| 1 | 2 | 3 |
+---+---+---+

Are you wanting to move c|3 to b|2 and b|2 to a|1? You can accomplish this by:

  1. Highlighting b, c, 2, and 3.
  2. Holding down CTRL+ALT.
  3. Click and drag the selection to the a|1 column.
  4. Remove the right-hand most column.

Unfortunately though this will simply join the original b|2 and c|3 columns and not reduce the width of the table.

Let’s say I wanted to make 1(1) it’s own paragraph (and not a subparagraph): in Word I would select the cell containing “(1)” and delete cells - shift cells left. Upon doing so, the right hand border to the cell containing the text would shift left as well.

Thanks for providing the example. This is not curently possible, as far as I am aware. The right border border is not moved under any circumstance that I can find. LO and MSO appear to use a different indent / offset handling algorithm, which may be the reason.
