No dictionary available version 6.3.6.2

Hi, running the latest version of libreoffice on Arch Linux and the spelling function can not find a dictionary. I check under options that the file is still in the default location. I also went to add dictionary extensions but I think recent versions of libre office don’t use this method now.

/home/user/.config/libreoffice/4/user/wordbook/standard.dic

The dictionary was set to AU EN. Under options I clicked reset. No change.
In other office apps like presentation and calc it is not detecting miss spelt words but no errors.

Any tips on getting it working again?

The file you mention is a user dictionary, it is used even by the latest versions of LibreOffice, but it useless without a “main” dictionary installed. You can install a Hunspell dictionary from your distro’s repos (refer to its documentation) or from the extensions site.

Also read this tutorial.

FIXED - For Arch users, having this issue, you need to have installed hunspell hunspell-en_US or hunspell-en_AU etc. Then it works.

Note: I did follow that tutorial linked above before and when I get to the extensions it states as per below. I cannot find the “standard English dictionary” then by luck is you search “English Dictionaries” it does find it. Seems the search function is a bit narrow.

YOU ONLY NEED IT IF YOU ARE USING THIS OLD 2008 VERSION OF OPENOFFICE.

You do not need this for versions of OpenOffice 3.1.X or later versions or for any version of LibreOffice as this Australian spell check dictionary is included in the standard English dictionary package of these versions.
