why will my odt write file not link with spreadsheet file when i try to import data for mail merg

im trying to link an odt write file to a spreadsheet file to data link for mail merg and it says that data file does not exist , but it does. it is in list of recent saved docs. why is this and how can i get them to merg and import data?
