Realtime Font Display on Draw / Writer not working?

Hi,

…I have just downloaded the latest dev version (details below) of LO.

There seems to be an issue with the font not being able to be viewed in real-time.
By which I mean if I select a block of text and then try to preview what that would look like by scrolling through alternative fonts, I cannot get the result in real-time on the page as I scroll.

Instead the onscreen font changes once, then the cursor moves off the selected text-block and moves to the next line and that is the end of that, unless I individually select another font one-by-one - which is very slow.

Apparently this has been an issue in the past.

I have tried the suggested remedy (in Tools/Options/LO/View/ShowPreviewofFonts), to no result.

is there a work-around?

cheers

I don’t think I have seen this sort of preview in OOo or LO. The Show preview of fonts
Displays the names of selectable fonts in the corresponding font, for example, fonts in the Font box on the Formatting bar.

If you select some text, right-click and select Character | Character, then in the Font tab you can preview in the dialog box what some of that text would look like by clicking on any of the fonts in the list. Not scrolling though.

Apparently this has been an issue in the past.

You are talking about one thing, and refer to something different.

Your problem seems to be that applying some font, selection doesn’t stay. This is not a realtime preview that is discussed in the referenced question, which is viewing the result before the font is actually applied, just hovering the cursor over the font list.

clarification on the original question:

I have no problem changing font or having the change stay applied.

. . . . .

What I am trying to do is scroll through the available font list (Tools/Character, for eg, or in the preview pane) and see my document font reflect the font that selected by the cursor as I scroll.

I want to see my document font change to match the scrolling cursor.

Simple font preview is OK as a first approximation, but when having to chose between dozens of subtly different fonts, it is very time consuming to have to click / drop / scroll / select / view / click / drop / scroll / select / view…etc

(in relation to my reference to the previous time this question was asked: clearly that questioner thought than changing the Tools/Options/LO/View/ - Show Preview of Fonts solved this problem.

Well, in my install clicking that checkbox has no discernible effect on this issue, and in fact no discernable effect AT ALL). Hence my question.

Cheers

FYI. MS currently brands it as “Live Preview” but it has been round since '95 in some of the apps I still run.

Yeah, yeah, I know, I had it in WordPro too when it was all new and exciting. But I rarely need to change font using my own styles and templates and would now find it distracting. I take care to limit my font numbers and to families that have a good range of variation.

ok, so not available. I get that.

But what about the Tools/Options/LO/View/ - Show Preview of Font checkbox.
What does that control - what does it relate to?

As in my first comment, it allows preview of the font name in the style of the font when you look at the font box, either in the Formatting toolbar or in the sidebar

When I’m working in Calc, my text has a live preview of font changes. However, I do not in Writer, Impress, or Draw. Clearly this font preview is something that LO can replicate, but for some reason its only showing up in one of the programs.

In reference to the question about the purpose of the “font preview” option, that relates to the font drop-down menu. When that is checked, you see each font name written in its own style.
