Can’t open Word documents

What is your OS? Have you recently updated it? What you write “Word documents”, do you really mean .doc(x) document or “generically” .odt?
Don’t use an answer, they are reserved for solutions.
File -> Open and selecting the file from the file picker dialog doesn’t open the file?
Should we now always wait at least 2 hours in case an OP finds a solution himself? 
My problem solved, I uninstalled the update and then re-installed it!
