How to correct line spacing in copied text [closed]

When copying text, Control C, (as from a recipe list of ingredients) from the Internet there is often a greater space between one line than other lines that have normal single spacing. I have tried using Control M and Format/Clear direct formatting and the result is either that there is no change or that the entire list goes to what looks like double spacing. I have gone to the line spacing screen and it is always set to single spacing. I am unable to change the spacing to single spacing just like the rest of the text that I type. Can anyone tell me how to manage this problem?
