What is the procedure to create a custom Base data file?

It's my experience to modify a Base template would take just as long as starting from scratch, for my purposes. I have spreadsheets of data I would like to search, update and append. Finding Media files across terabytes is my purpose.

Could you please elaborate on your question? Are you aiming to use Base to perform SQL queries (search) the data which in turn is in a spreadsheet, meaning the spreadsheet is the actual database? Is the data already assembled using something outside of LibreOffice? Or, do you plan to write a macro that assembles a list of media files and have these stored in the database/spreadsheet? By modifying a Base template, are you referring to reusing an existing schema/database structure?

Thank you for your response.

Data collection starts with a directory listing output to a CVS file that is imported into a spreadsheet. Additional columns related to metadata are added to the sheet that will be used to embed the media files consisting of audio, video, and image files. This will require 3 Base files as metadata is different between the 3 file types.

I am not sure as to queries what would be the shortest and quickest path given this scenario. I would value your advise on this issue.

I understand what macros are, a collection of commands and key strokes. I am not familiar with LibreOffice macro capabilities. I would appreciate direction to the appropriate documents outling the use of macros. Best Regards _A_
