Writer version 6.3.6.2 (x64) does not show a blank document automatically at startup, as the prior version did, but shows thumbnails of recent documents. I’d like to have Writer open to a blank document automatically. Thanks.

You didn’t tell under which OS you work, nor how you launch LibreOffice.
I guess you double-click on some generic LO icon associated with soffice
or soffice.exe
. Since LO doesn’t know from this launcher which component to activate, it opens the “start center” showing a list of recent documents and the specific component icons at left.
Modify your “launcher icon” so that the associated command is soffice --writer
or soffice.exe --writer
. How to do this depends on the OS and desktop manager.
