Windows: saving templates

LO 6.4.5 on Windows 7/64.

I use the template manager to edit a template. I want to save under a different name. But LO wants to save it in my Documents area, not in the arcane (User Data) area where it keeps its templates. Then it doesn’t appear in the template management window next time.

How is this supposed to work?

Is the user supposed to thread through the Windows directory structure to save the template in the arcane right place? I think I might be able to find it, but a novice user couldn’t. Or am I missing something?

All this would be 100% easier if the template management screen had “Copy” as an action, so one could make a copy of an existing template in the right location, edit it, and save it there.

I must be missing something. What?

Well, I figured it out.

If I use File > Save a Copy > Save As … Template, the save goes to the Documents area, where it’s useless.

If I use File > Templates > Save As Template, the save goes to the templates area and lets me name it.
