Why can't I type the letter y in Writer?

i am trying to write a new document. The letter y does not appear when I type it.

You had better give us some more details about the problem. Can you type a 'y' in other programs, like Notepad or Wordpad? Have you tried another keyboard? What language are you using and what is the Locale setting in LibreOffice? And what version of LibreOffice are you using? Not to mention, what version of your Operating System are you using?

Probably your keyboard has been switched to English or German!?

Then the letters "Z" and "Y" are reversed.

I like that answer. Following a recent Windows update one of my computers had the keyboard switched to UK from US causing a moment's consternation when I eventually realised that some symbol keys were switched.
