Using ver. 6.3.6.2. When I try to insert a field, it inserts the words 'page number'

I have done this in the past, but cannot figure out why it is no longer working. Date is simply ‘date’

Ctrl+F9 toggles the state concerning the two ways TextField_s can be displayed on screen. Printing and the preview are not afflicted.
