Hi. I have several times installed LibreOffice vers. 6.4.6.2 windows 10 64-bit (and LibreOffice 6.4 Help Pack (Danish) - because from Denmark of course) “from scratch” on my 4 months old laptop and everything SEEMS okay - everything! - but I cannot open the program by double clicking on shortcut on the “big screen” (? - please bear with me…), nor by clicking on shortcut on “process/bottom line” (?). Never experienced anything like that before - have used LibreOffice for years without any problems, also on this/my current laptop until very recently. Have of course “done all the right things” before and when installing - uninstall, restart, no background programs running etc. - and have also repeatedly tried repair option in LibreOffice it self. Are by no means an expert, but nor a total idiot (I hope!) and haven’t had any problems before. I am currently on Windows 10 Home 64-bit version 1909 build xxx.1016 (in no hurry with version 2004 yet - maybe the problem?). My laptop otherwise perfectly functioning with latest BIOS and drivers, thoroughly tested. Any suggestions/solutions will be very welcome - I need my LibreOffice! Yours sincerely Jesper, Denmark
Hello
perform the following procedure:
Step 1 - Test
-
Right click -> Run
on Windows Start menu (orWindows Key + R
) - Type
"%ProgramFiles%\LibreOffice\program\soffice" --safe-mode
into Open text field (including the double quotes) - Click
OK
- Optional: Archive your profile expanding
Advanced
(click on the word Advanced right aboveHelp
button) and clickArchive User Profile
button - Click button
Continue in Safe Mode
If this does work for you - most likely your user profile is corrupt and you need to perform
Step 2 - Reset your LibreOffice user profile (perform only, if Step 1 does work for you)
To reset the user profile perform:
-
Right click -> Run
on Windows Start menu (orWindows Key + R
) - Type
"%ProgramFiles%\LibreOffice\program\soffice" --safe-mode
into Open text field (including the double quotes) - Archive your profile expanding
Advanced
(click on the word Advanced right aboveHelp
button) and clickArchive User Profile
button - Select option
Reset to factory settings
- Activate
[x] Reset entire user profile
- Click button
Apply Changes and Restart
Hope that helps
Damn, that was fast! - thank you so much. I will try above mentioned tomorrow - it is very late here in Denmark, Scandinavia and I’m honestly too tired right now (= bedtime) but will of course return. Again many thanks!
Problem SOLVED! The suggested solution above worked perfectly and both my LibreOffice 6.4.6.2 and LibreOffice 6.4 Help Pack (Danish) work perfectly again. Thank you so much - will donate some more to The Document Foundation first-coming payday! Yours sincerely Jesper, Denmark
Had similar issue in 6.4.6.2. Couldn’t open the safe mode at all. Resolved by deleting the user profile folder. Here is the process:
-
Find the user profile folder in the file system following this webpage: LibreOffice user profile - The Document Foundation Wiki. In my case, “%APPDATA%\libreoffice\4”.
-
Make a copy of the folder “4”, just in case it has something important.
-
Delete the folder “4”. If it can be deleted, try launching the LibreOffice normally. It should work. If it cannot be deleted, and system prompts some program is accessing this folder, go to step 4.
-
Run Windows Task Manager, enable Detailed view, end all Apps and Background Processes starting with “LibreOffice”. Now try deleting the “4” folder again. If it can be deleted, then LibreOffice should work normally.
Note: Once the folder “4” is deleted, recent files are no longer listed. Other user info might be lost too. So please always make a copy before deleting, just in case.
Hope it helps.
