I have several videos (in PPTX format) of hymns with word overlays and wish to save to a video format pref MP4 but preserving the timings. Is this possible in Libreoffice?

Sorry, I think you're confusing some terms.

There are no videos in PPTX format.

A file in PPTX format is a slide show.

In LibreOffice you can open a PPTX file. You can test if the time schedule is respected by downloading and installing LibreOffice.

LibreOffice uses the ODP format for screen presentations. There is no 100% compatibility between these file formats (PPTX and ODP).

If you want to pack a screen presentation into a MP4 (video) format, you need a screencast program.

To clarify/supplement what exactly you want to achieve, please edit your initial question.

For long term LO users - apparently there is a function in Microsoft Powerpoint which exports a powerpoint presentation to a video forms (mp4). This is used to burn to a DVD or live stream it with some services and avoid the requirement for software required to view powerpoint slides and hence only rely on the ability to decode an mp4 / video file.

The OP basically wants to save a presentation to MP4. So the short answer is there is no such function in LibreOffice at the moment. ebot mentions a solution to this shortfall, "you need a screencast program". You can use programs like snagit, or gomcam to achieve this. However, there may be challenges with your overlay text porting from pptx to odp, e.g. not switching between the verses, or dumping all the verses on the screen at one. With the newer versions of powerpoint "pptx version" you can port the song+text to MP4 by either saving it as mp4 or exporting it to mp4. Good luck.

In Windows 10, there is an operating system capability to record video of any application. It is initiated by tapping the keystroke combination Windows+G. If your slide show runs automatically, then you can record the Impress display using this capability. You must click on Impress and leave the mouse pointer on Impress before tapping Windows+G.

For prior versions of Windows, another possibility is to use OBS Studio to record screen activity. Windows+G is limited to recording ONE application. You choose the application to record by clicking on it and leaving the mouse pointer on prior to tapping Windows+G.

Hello,

it sounds like you are looking for a screen recorder tool Here are two solutions i used successfully

For Linux: SimpleScreenRecorder - https://www.maartenbaert.be/simplescr...

For Windows: ShareX - https://getsharex.com/

For Video Editing i would suggest: Avidemux - http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/ which is availabe for both linux and windows.

Hope that helps.

Still trying to update my copy of PP (2010) to get MP4 output. Will try Screencast, new idea to me, and Avidemux and see where it goes otherwise it is WMV output which works but the files are just much larger.
