LO7: Impress on Manjaro Linux - stuttering/flickering transitions

Hello Forum,

I have done a lot of searching, but have not found a solution despite this being an apparent problem for many years.

When playing a slide show or receiving the preview when applying a transition, the transition flickers between black and the rendered slide.
When playing the slideshow, the initial transition is okay, but beyond the title slide, the transitions are awful.

There is no OpenGL to disable, which is what many solutions suggest. I have tried enabling and disabling hardware acceleration.
OpenCL is not enabled as it is not available on my computer.

Thanks for any help with this.

And other fullscreen slideshow applicaitons do not have that problem?

You could compare with other image viewers for example geeqie which also has an integrated slideshow viewer.

Further Questions:

  • What graphics card are using?
  • What driver do you have installed? Native driver or alternative?
  • Is VSYNC enabled?

Hello,

  • ‘WPS’, ‘FreeOffice’ and ‘Only Office Desktop’ present the transitions smoothly in full-screen mode.
  • I tried Geeqie, but there are no transitions to compare with Impress, so I don’t see how an image viewer would solve a presentation file problem.

Ah, there is OpenGL.
I don’t know how to find whether VSYNC is enabled or not, but 3 other presentation apps work fine.

You could try installing the priority driver for you graphics card if your are currently using the nouveau driver. But not sure if this can/would fix the issue.
