can't upload docx or doc files

I have saved document as .docx (also tried .doc). The files do come up as docx or doc file in my folder however a lot of websites do not allow me to upload a file claiming that it is not .docx or .doc file.
I have tried multiple files, made new files but the issue persists. I have added “.docx” or “.doc” at the end of the file name (as some have suggested) but it doesn’t fix it as well.
Any idea how to fix it?
Thanks

Edit:
Here is test document, it has exactly the same issue as the other document. It is brand new document, it was saved through “save as”
test.docx

I have tested it on multiple websites that have doc or docx file upload like linkedin (CV upload).

Hi,
are you sure, you editet the Extensions, or maybe you just editet the name of the File. Windows sometimes hides the real extensions of files.

Take a look here:

If that does not work, you could attach a sample of your docx/doc file to your questions (please use edit for this), Than we can have a look and see if it is damaged in some way.

I have saved document as .docx…

How?

lot of websites do not allow

And what is the point of complaining here? Ask their admins/maintainers.

Hi, I have saved document as docx. All of the files extensions are either docx or doc. I have attached test file that has exact same issue

@gabix: To be fair, there could be something wrong with the document his LO installation creates. That reminds me,

@sparky32: Please also provide your exact OS and LO Version.

Furthermore, did you already try to open the docx/doc with another document viewer to see if it is damaged? I think MS still provides a FREE Doc viewer … Get Doc Viewer - Microsoft Store

@gabix
I havse saved documents through “save as”
I have spoken with tech support of some of these websites (for example linkedin) and no one has any idea why it wouldn’t upload

I uploaded the sample file provided to a web site that claims to accept DOCX files (namely, web-based CAT tool www.freetm.com). The file was parsed fine, no error issued. Thus, the problem is most likely not on the LibreOffice side.

@igorlius my LO: 6.4.1.2 (x64) and I am using win 10 64bit. I can open files with MS viewer although document has different spacing.

Well, if the docx/doc can be opened with an “official” MS tool i thnk @gabix might be right, than it is the problem of the website maintainers to explain to you why they do not except a obviously supported docx.

As a last thing i could think of that you could check yourself:
There are different docx/doc types/versions … maybe the website(s) only support a very specific one.

Save As .doc will probably work; .docx is sometimes problematic I find.

The issue is that upload script for sites like Linkedin call browser apis that work only if the PC has MS office installed. I have tested this by trying to upload the same exact file from two PCs one with and one without MS office, it works with, fails without.

From there, i figured that installing just the free MS Word Viewer fixes the issue. Microsoft deprecated that tool in 2019 or so, but you can still find it online. By default, it supports only .doc format. You can install Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack to add support for docx and newer formats.

Here’s a couple of links that are working as of this writing:
MS Word Viewer: : Download Microsoft Office Word Viewer - MajorGeeks
Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack: Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint File Formats - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download

Nice catch!

On a side note, it is also interesting to know that LinkedIn promotes this kind of vendor lock-in. Must check how deep it goes. Thanks!
