Cannot Change Font Color to "Show Changes" and Font Button Doesn't Work?

I cannot seem to change font color in LO Writer 7.0.1.2 (x64, Windows 10). In an old or new document, I cannot change the color of selected text. If I turn off “Record changes,” clicking on the Font Color button simple makes the selected text bold. Like eddiesaliba in his post of 8/23/2020, I had this problem in an earlier version (6.4.?), so I updated yesterday to 7.0. Interestingly, I was actually trying to use the “Record changes” function when I discovered this. I have had no problem using “Record/Show changes” through early May 2020. I used it last spring for grading papers, and font color would automatically change to show changes. I tried to use “Record/Show changes” yesterday, and text color was not reflecting changes. I went into options for Writer and selected colors for “Changes,” but there’s still no change to text color. Interestingly, when I saved the document to MS Word format, the resulting Word docx file did reflect changes, but not according to the colors I had specified. I love LibreOffice, but I cannot seem to change font colors in my documents. Has anyone else experienced this? I also posted a comment similar to this at eddiesaliba’s post.

I have the same problem but what annoys me more I can not un-bold the Bold button I am using Windows 10. This is fairly recent. HELP

I have the same or similar problem. If I’m working on a document on my desktop and change a paragraph to red text it works fine. But, if I then go to open that file on my laptop, using the very same version of Writer, the paragraph will show as black and trying to select the paragraph and change it does nothing. If I go ahead and work on the document on the laptop and don’t make any formatting changes, when I save it and reopen it again on the desktop, the paragraph is red. Both the computers are Dell, running the same operating system.

Interestingly, when I saved the document to MS Word format, the resulting Word docx file did reflect changes, but not according to the colors I had specified.

There is no 100% compatibility between M$ Word and Writer. If you work with LibreOffice, you should save your files in ODF format (Writer = ODT).

Basically:

Always create and save your files in LibreOffice and save them in ODF format (ODT, ODS, etc.).
Always keep these files as their source. If you need other formats for distribution to partners, you can open an ODF file and save and distribute another format with ″ Save as… ″.

This way, you always have working files available in your system environment.

Hi, ebot, Thanks for this. I tend to work almost exclusively in LibreOffice. The files I refer to above started as LibreOffice files. I save a copy in MS Word format only for my colleagues, who prefer that. I do my work in LibreOffice. My issue stated above does not involve files created in Word and then converted to LO Writer. That said, I will report the behavior as you have recommended. Again, if others have had this issue, please chime in here with a comment. Thank you!
