I want to write the word fred in my text so that when the user clicks on fred he jumps into a file fred at the top. How do I do that?

The feature is called a hyperlink.
Insert>Hyperlink and fill-in the various fields in the dialogue with the relevant data, mainly the file path and the name which will be displayed.
To activate the link, you Ctrl+click.
