How do you create a new DB when you can't open a new (.odb) file?

I have just logged into an OO (DB) file, and I can’t get Base to recognize an .(odb) file just created? It is asking for an ‘external file’. I would appreciate any suggestions.

…I have just logged into an OO (DB) file…
Hello: Not clear what you mean by this. Are you simply trying to open an .odb Base/HSQLDB embedded file? Would you provide the full error message and more detail of the steps you are taking to try to open the file. Were there any ERROR messages?

I have just downloaded OO Base. I am just starting to use it. It’s al;l new to me. When I log in and try to access a new file (Page 54-55) of the manual,it refuses to acknowledge ithe opening. It is looking for an external l file. What should (could) I do.?

RMH…

Yup. "The connection to the data source “*” could not be established. No sdbc driver was found for: the url ‘sdbc:embedded:hsqldb’. That’s it. I hope this helps.

Would you kindly provide a link to the manual you refer to above - so we can look at what it says. Are you using LibreOffice Base or OpenOffice Base? I had always assumed that Base used a built-in driver to access the standard HSQLDB embedded data-file. So I’m not sure why you’d get a No sdbc driver was found message? I cannot understand why you’d need to ‘log-in’ to a standard HSQLDB embedded Base file (the default).

If you are on Windows then your anti-virus’s anti-ransomware settings might be blocking LibreOffice from editing files it has just created. It sounds a bit like AVG/Avast behaviour. If it is the problem then go into your anti-virus, find the anti-ransomware settings and unblock (or allow) soffice.bin.
