Cannot open installation file

Thank you oweng.

I’m using Windows 7 Pro SP1.

I have downloaded both the installation and help files,
http://oss.mmu.edu.my/pub/tdf/libreoffice/stable/4.1.4/win/x86/LibreOffice_4.1.4_Win_x86.msi
file name: LibreOffice_4.1.4_Win_x86.msi - 4447kb
&
http://oss.mmu.edu.my/pub/tdf/libreoffice/stable/4.1.4/win/x86/LibreOffice_4.1.4_Win_x86_helppack_en-US.msi
filename: LibreOffice_4.1.4_Win_x86_helppack_en-US.msi - 675kb

but when I double click on the installation file I get this message:

“This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.”

I have tried searching for these key words, but the only entry seems to be closed due to duplicate questions, but I can’t find the other duplicate(s).

Can someone advise?

Thank you.

Can you please edit the question to include the full name of the installation file? Thanks. Also indicate your version of Windows.

LibreOffice_4.1.4_Win_x86.msi - 4447kb

I don’t know what that is, but it is far too small (~4 MB) to be an installer file. Compare with the top entry here which is 206 MB. This is the size file you should be seeing if the file has downloaded correctly. The en_US helppack is also correspondingly too small (~0.6 MB compared with ~5.1 MB).

Thanks oweng, Do you think I have to unpack/unzip before running because the file type is described as “Windows Installer Package” or should I just forget about those downloads and just use the kink you have provided and download from there? Can I? Which files do I download? The 1st and 2nd from the top or the 1st and 3rd? Thanks.

Windows Installer Package simply means an MSI file. The files you require are the top one and the “helppack_en-US” one (about 34 entries down).

Ok, thank you, I will try,

for the 2nd file, is it the one with just msi (5.1M) or msi.asc (836). Sorry but I have no idea what they all mean.

Thanks for your help.

You want the MSI = LibreOffice_4.1.4_Win_x86_helppack_en-US.msi = 5,308,416. The “asc” file is a plain text file that contains the PGP signature used to verify the integrity of the download (can’t find equivalent LibO documentation!) should you wish to do so.
