BASE: form screen blanks and then re-loads as completely new screen

I have a situation that has only just started happening with a Base file. When opening forms the screen goes black, the form loads, closes after a second or two and then opens as a new window.

I presume the form is crashing and re-loading, but don’t really know and wonder a) does anybody else know and b) what, if anything, can be done about it?

Some issues here. You do not provide basic information. What OS, specific LO version and database being used. Also lack of clarity - Main question = screen goes blank and detail = screen goes black. Main question ‘loads as completely new screen’ (???) but details = ‘opens as a new window’ (again ???).

Have you tried resetting the user profile? See → LibreOffice user profile

Sorry if I wasn’t clear. I did do a screen recording but the form contains personal information so I didn’t post it.

Resetting my profile worked - something else I am now unlikely to forget!

So the following happens in this order:

  1. Base opens
  2. I double click the form want to open
  3. The entire screen goes black for a second
  4. the form loads and immediately reloads as a new window (leaving only one window open)

This only started happening yesterday, but possibly after upgrading to version 7.0.3.1. Version information as follows:

Locale: en-GB (en_GB.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

I spoke to soon. Resetting the profile does work (every time) but as soon as I re-enable macros it happens again. Actually I need to keep playing I think. It actually happens as soon as re-start in normal mode.

Would not be a surprise if a macro was causing problems. May be a problem if you don’t use macros. Cannot do anything from my end without sample. Understand you have personal info. Possibly copy Base file delete personal info & post. Just an option.

A quick look shows no problem. Both forms open without issue. Will have a closer look at this later today. Unfortunately, at this time, it appears to be something on your system causing the problem.

Further to this I have now tried it on Windows and, as you say have no problems. Linux (in this case Ubuntu 20.0) had updated headers the other day so maybe they are related.
I’m less bothered now I know the database itself is not corrupt.

Cannot duplicate your problem. I am running Ubuntu 20.04.1 Mate with Kernel Linux 5.4.0-54-generic x86_64. Have not used the 5.8.x kernel. Using same LO build but different locale(en-US here). Unfortunately have no other direction to give you as to where to look next since it appears to be something on your system.

Not to worry. It will eventually be deployed on Windows machines I think so as long aws it isn’t corruption (which clearly it isn’t as you’ve tested on others) then I am a lot less concerned. Thanks again
