Every time I edit a chapter in my document, it seems to shift the right/left of later chapters. Is there away to not only start on a new page (got that done), with a new page number (also done), but ALSO WITH a NEW SHEET OF PAPER.

It kinda sucks to reprint a chapter only to find out the rest of the document flip flops the page number/side of a sheet the pages appear on.

Odd pages should always appear on the right.... The front of each piece of paper.

All I can find is new page (April 2019; and a few more dates)

Page properties are defined in page styles. Pages can be constrained for only left or only right. By default, your pages are formatted by Default Page Style page style which is both left and right.

There are two built-in page styles for your purpose: Left Page and Right Page which are constrained on a single side and alternate between each other.

Implementation is then quite easy.

I assume that several pages at the start of your document do not need the even/odd specificity. They already are under Default Page Style. Let them so.

If your document does not use styles, put the cursor at the very beginning of the first chapter. Remove the page break you already put there.

  • Replace with Insert>More Breaks>Manual Break.
  • From the page style drop-down menu, select Right Page
  • OK

Do the same at start of every chapter.

If you use styles, a new chapter begins with a Heading 1 paragraph. Customize Heading 1 definition to put the forced break to Right Page in the Text Flow tab. Then you won't need to patch your chapters individually.

Note that Left Page/Right Page automatically add a blank page to satisfy the parity constraint. Don't add manual page breaks or other empty paragraphs or you'll end up with too many blank pages when you edit your document.

This is really ODD/Confusing...

I can not preview what it is doing. I just tried making the chapter "Right" only, and I see it added a dozen pages to compensate for the additional blanks, but the page view, PDF export and Print Preview do no show it to me.

OK, the PDF Export* and print* don't print out the extra blank pages, and the in-line document view doesn't note L/R pages, but the print preview is showing them (Just gotta select "Book View").

hmmm... something broken? or am I doing something wrong?

Ok, I think its an issue with Printing to PDF. I send a PDF to my printer, and even within the Print setting, I print to PDF vs the export Directly as PDF. It will Only insert extra blank pages if the printer you're sending it to has a duplex setting. PDF does ...(more)

Solution to print to PDF..... DO NOT USE the toolbar Icon. You must use the FILE > EXPORT AS > Export as PDF : Then select "export automatically inserted blank pages: under the STRUCTURE section.

Next, I'll have to re-learn Chapters. It seems selecting page style "Right" page. does not reset the chapter setting. Thought, the rest of the chapter is changed to the Default L/R Page styles for the rest of the chapter.

The chapter count still stays in order automatically updating the footer chapter count and numbering the chapter in the Chapter headline by using the Chapter Paragraph style instead of Page style

I don't understand. Probably a matter of common vocabulary.

Chapters using only Right Page and inserting a blank page every other one: this is possible only if you modified said page style Next style to Right Page (same style) in its Organizer tab. Or you have many manual page breaks to force next page, which conflicts with the parity of Right Page.

Auto blank pages are shown only in Book view.

Your last comment is Klingon for me. "Chapter" paragraph style ??? "Page style (paragraph style?) ???

Yes, @ajittoz when I first setup chapters, I was told to setup a next section with the chapter name. So I have 7 styles. This resetting via the right page will be easier. Especially as I don't need each section to have different page settings. If I need a different setting for a few pages, I'll deal with that on its own (I think)

The last one is as you said ..... Chapters using the ?organizer tab? with each section/chapter getting its own page style & name not paragraph style.
