Microsoft 1x-5x documents Mac

Hi,
Unfortunately, I have a bunch of MSFT 1x-5x documents. I am trying to open them on Mac High Sierra. Seem to have more trouble with Catalina. Running Libre 7.0.3.1. They do show up in the Recents gallery Libre is launched, but I cannot get the recents to my desktop and eventually to a .dmg where they are originally located. Any way to get these old docs back to life?

Succinctly, looking to open MSFT 1x-5x documents and save them to a .dmg file where they are located

Thanks for your help

What are MSFT documents? Since you tagged common, I can’t guess if they are text, spreadsheet or presentation.

I have also a collection of old Word documents from the MacOS Classic era. I open them in Writer (eventually in old version) but there are 2 issues:

  • these old documents are encoded MacRoman and not Unicod: therefore you must manually restore non-ASCII characters

  • formatting has changed a lot through the years: you must redefine the paragraph styles properties inherited from Word and probably fully restyle the docs (notably create character styles because Word has no notion for it, not speaking of page styles).

I didn’t understand the tags so just chose common, these are mostly Word documents some Excel. It seems that libre has no trouble opening in “recents” but I don’t know how/if I can move the document from recents to desktop?

BTW , which tag should i use?
Thanks again

Also, I don’t want to answer my own question, just reply to you and don’t see how to do that?

As you guess, answers are reserved here for solutions. There are two ways to answer questions requesting additional information:

  • click on the edit link under your question and add the details after a subtitle like “EDIT #” or “EDIT date”
  • enter in a “conversation” wit add a comment (limited to 1000 characters)

Please, move your “non-answer” into a comment after the question with a click on the more link under the answer and “Repost as a comment”. Only you, as the owner of the answer can see this link.

Tags are a way to send alerts to contributors monitoring them. Mandatory tags are one (or several) of writer, calc, draw, impress, base or math, the same name in lowercase as the application where you met the problem. If the problem is general (all applications impacted), it is common. In case the question is about the site, LO policy, road map, …, the tag is meta.

Retagging is tricky. Click on retag and type the new tags. Don’t be disturbed by the suggestions. Type your tags and a space, then press Enter twice to exit retag mode.

@Dusty50: thanks

I totally don’t get the way this board works:
Please, move your “non-answer” into a comment after the question with a click on the more link under the answer and “Repost as a comment”. Only you, as the owner of the answer can see this link.

I don’t see “more” link under my “answer” which was a comment

Under an answer (not a comment or a question), there’s a line with links “edit, flag offensive, delete, link and more”. “More” pops up a “Repost as a question comment” (and “Repost as a comment of the oldest answer” in case of several answers) when you hover over it. Clicking does it.

I thought you did it so. But you probably copied everything and pasted in a comment, which is another way.

Never mind, the ergonomics of this site is awful.
