I have just installed version 7

…on which operating system?

Sorry, Windows 10

Does it open if you perform:

  • Right click -> Run on Windows Start menu (or Windows Key + R)
  • Type "%ProgramFiles%\LibreOffice\program\soffice" --safe-mode into Open text field (including the double quotes)
  • Click OK
  • Click button Continue in Safe Mode

?

No, the black box opens very briefly then disappears.

Don’t get as far as the Continue in safe mode button

Could you open File Explorer (aka Windows Explorer) and enter string %ProgramFiles%\LibreOffice\program into the input line? Do you see the installation?

Did you install to a custom location?
Did you download/install 64-bit version?
Are you familiar with cmd terminal program? If yes try

  • Windows + R
  • Enter cmd into open field
  • Type "%ProgramFiles%\LibreOffice\program\soffice" --safe-mode on the command line
  • Press ENTER key

and provide any error message you may get.

There are loads of lib entries (sorry, I’m not too computer savvy!)in File Explorer. I installed it in the default location, and didn’t customise anything. It was the 64 bit version, I think, and the cmd terminal program means nothing to me!

and the cmd terminal program means nothing to me

Try the procedure mentioned above anyway - no other way to get out any other information from a distance. You may also give

"%ProgramFiles%\LibreOffice\program\soffice.exe" --safe-mode a try (in both methods).

Thanks for your kind assistance, Opaque. I’ll give your suggestions a bash!

Ok - call your fortune teller.

Having the same exact issues as Haykeyebrian, the black box when trying to open in safe mode shows briefly then disappears. Right click to open in safe mode from the LO drop-down and nothing happens. Unfortunately the suggestions offered so far yield no results.

And this surely answers the question

Still tearing what little hair I have left out!

Resolved issue by reinstalling through Windows, settings, apps, modify. Sorted!
