Highlighting very slow in LibreOffice Writer (v. 7.0.3.1)

I have a relatively small document (~10 pages) with several reference marks within. No images. When I try to highlight text, the document lags for about 1 second and then shows me the highlighted text. What can I do to speed LO writer up?

Using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Thanks.

Still haven’t solved this issue: Dec 27, 2020. Thanks.

i have same issue archlinux and libreoffice-still package

You can try:

First steps to take before submitting a bug

This happens to me when I accidentally click on the header/footer areas, summoning the blue tabs. Clicking on the + to get the dropdown menu to delete it, letting the text settle, then saving and reopening the document seems to be a workaround, but is terribly inconvenient.

Bug filed here: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=152019#c1

Bug post contains a response that solved the header/footer appearance issue forever, (You can disable the feature if it is not needed to you. It is configurable under Options->LibreOffice->Advanced->Open Expert Configuration; look for UseHeaderFooterMenu) and stopped the slow-highlighting issue.

Your post is not a solution (answer) to the above initial question. Please use a comment and delete this answer, thank you.

I believe it is - it discusses why it happens, and thus a way to avoid it (of course, OP could have something different, but it is not known).

@mikekaganski ,
thanks for note.

OP refers his statement to header/footer areas.
We will see.

Please see above.
