Changing default setting for underlining in Font Effects

I want to change the default setting for underlining to Single and the color to Black. When I modify it in the Font Effects dialog box, the change is applied to the current selection only and then the color setting reverts to White. How do I change the default color setting for underlining to Black?EM_iMac_Screen Shot 2020-12-17 at 8.44.26 PM.png

Hello @elmayfield, Could it be that you are using a dark background color, and (by default) the underlining color is set to automatic? What font color are you using?

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I’m not using any exotic backgrounds or font colors - plain black font on white background.

Could you share a reduced sample file that shows the problem? Click edit below your question and use the paper clip to upload (remove all sensible data before).

Curiouser and curiouser… I have LibreOffice 6.4 installed on both my laptop (MacAir) and desktop (iMac). The issue I’ve described with underlining is occurring on the iMac. I decided to see if the same issue occurred on the MacAir - but on the MacAir, the underlining feature seems to work fine, i.e., when I select text and type Cmd + U, the selected text is underlined, without any fiddling with the settings in Font Effects like I’ve been doing on the iMac. So this seems to (A) be a device-specific problem, and (B) may have nothing to do with the Font Effects settings. I’ve attached two screenshots showing the Font Effects settings on the MacAir and the iMac.

No screenshots attached. To do that, edit your question and use the image icon.

Create a file that shows the problem on your iMac, and open it in MacAir, to see what happen.

I just uploaded the screenshots again. Not clear why they didn’t upload the first time, as I followed your instructions (clicked edit below my question and used the paper clip to upload).

@elmayfield, Take a look at the guidelines at LibreOffice user profile - The Document Foundation Wiki to see if it can be caused by corruption in the user profile.
