how do you get libreoffice calc to update styles after style modified?

I opened a document for editing and made modifications to a couple styles.

With the style pane open I tried selecting the style and clicking the “update” button and the style does not update throughout the document.

They don’t update unless I select the cells with the modified style and double click on the style name in the style pane. I don’t want to do that a hundred times.

Is there a way to get all instances to autoupdate when I make a modification of that style?

Also is there a reason why I have to fill out the recaptcha when I am signed in?

If cells formatted with a particular style do not follow changes in the style, the most probable case is ad-hoc formatting. Reset to the style by Ctrl + M.

When you are ~new to the site, i.e. for your first several posts, you are required to enter the captcha. It’s a measure targeted to fighting spam. It will not ask you anymore when you have posted several questions/answers, so that the system “knows” that you are a regular contributors.

Generally it’s unreasonable to get upset on any automated means that try to prevent abuse on different sites. Abusers are creative, and all automatic tools are imperfect and annoying - you can’t have a perfection in such a task

It’s actually not unreasonable to be upset by being put through 20 different captchas to get through to the site. Other capchas aren’t nearly as bad as google’s captcha.

If you have direct formatted some cells with an attribute such as Bold, then when you change the Style that attribute is not affected by the change in style. Direct formatting overrides Style.

To clear direct formatting select those cells (or even all cells) and press Ctrl+M (Format > Clear Direct Formatting). Styles such as Accent are not affected by Ctrl+M. Cheers, Al

Note that conditional formatting (that is itself a DF, too) may be in effect, and also will be cleared by Ctrl+M.

Good to know about conditional formatting. I avoid direct formatting except in rare cases because I don’t want to have to manually make changes. I’m not sure how there was direct formatting to mess up the styles I used.
