How can I flag content for moderators?

How can I flag content for moderators? Help [1] mentions it, but i don’t see that function anywhere.

Edit: I can mark my question as offensve  My current karma is 3 - that might be the problem.

From where in in the help did you understand that you could “flag content for moderators”? The term “moderator” does not appear therein at all. You can mention a user of this site by prepeding @ to a user’s nickname (and this way creating an individual notification a specific user’s profile, which is indicated by the red flag right of your nickname) .

In fact all users of this site are supposed to be moderators, provided they have earned enough karma points to be entitled for almost all activities (Note: “moderator” should not be confused with administrator, who has control over technical aspects of this site)

Please replace tag common with meta using the retag link. Type Enter twice to exit retag mode.

@anon73440385: this part: “report inappropriate content by flagging it.”.Ii assumed that there are moderators if I can flag content.

“report inappropriate content by flagging it.”.

Ah - I’m too long here and (in the sense of @ajlittoz’s answer) biased by reading this: “You can inform (=report) other users of this site, that they are not alone considering this post as offensive”.

There are no moderators on this site. Or rather, I know of no one. It seems this site is now fully a community one, living its own life, apart from a time-to-time check by the TDF infrastructure team but only for asset problems.

Consequently, there is no way to contact moderator or attract their attention.

Depending in the nature of the content, there may be several solutions:

  • for obviously offensive content, you can use the flag offensive link if you have the required karma level
  • for overtly spam, you can delete the contribution (question, answer or comment) provided you have enough karma points
  • when in doubt, you can close the question with proper reason to prevent any addition (again with karma level)

In other cases, when you find no other way, you can ask a question with a “catching” title in hope that high-karma users will get it. But don’t do it routinely.

To show the community your question has been answered, click the ✓ next to the correct answer, and “upvote” by clicking on the ^ arrow of any helpful answers. These are the mechanisms for communicating the quality of the Q&A on this site. Thanks!

In case you need clarification, edit your question (not an answer which is reserved for solutions) or comment the relevant answer.

Thank you! I would be great to have something like that in the Help section. I’m trying to learn how the site works and I (wrongly) assumed it’s similar to a forum with some sort of moderation.

It isn’t a forum when you understand forum as a collection of “conversations” where contributions are displayed in chronological order.

It is a Question & Answers site where you ask a question and answers are expected from contributors. Only one answer is allowed per contributor and answers are ordered by “relevance” according to internal criteria among which the “value” of the answer as resulting from votes.

This means answers may be reordered and you must take precaution to ensure the answer can still be understood after being moved because you no longer know after which it was initially positioned. So never consider chronological order is implicit here.

There are no moderators on this site

In the 60 greatest karma users there is at least one moderator: @qubit1

Most members are new members or registered members (I don’t know the difference yet).

New member or Registered member: maybe a question of karma or seniority on the site. There are many mysterious aspect in the AskBot engine.

Not a karma issue (carnendil: 1377; Jean-Baptiste FAURE: 1110). Not a registration time. Who knows!
