When saving a file it tries to put it in “this pc > Documents >”. When I attempt to save I get “ C:\users\user\Documents\Untitled 1.Oct” error. Help
Please note that you should write a short title where you had put it all, and the full description where you had put that “Tttttttttttttttttttttttyytt”. Just to help you creating a good-looking question the next time
Edited OP for readability.
I assume from the path name that you are using Windows 10. If it isn’t the case and the below does not work, please edit your question to add operating system and also more details of the error. To edit, click on the edit link just below your question. Please also Change the Title to something like Cannot save in Windows and put the details in the body of the question.
First. Is it an error? or is it the save dialog box?
If it is an error, it could be being blocked by anti-virus, either Windows Defender or a third party AV.
Allow LibreOffice access to controlled folder
The below numbered list is from Use the Windows Defender Security app to allow specific apps
- Open the Windows Security by
selecting the shield icon in the
task bar or searching the start menu
for Defender. - Select the Virus & threat
protection tile (or the shield
icon on the left menu bar) and then
select Ransomware protection. - Under the Controlled folder
access section, select Allow an
app through Controlled folder
access - Select Add an allowed app and
follow the prompts to add apps. You
need to allow access to
soffice.bin
3rd Party Anti-virus
If you do have a third party anti-virus go into settings and then look for something like anti-ransomware or folder protection. Have a look at the blocked apps list, if you see soffice.bin in there change it to Allowed (you might have to read AV help if not obvious). Otherwise go to the Allowed Apps setting and allow soffice.bin, this might not be easy so you might have to enter *.*
to the File Name box and press Enter to make the dialog display all files, then select soffice.bin; or just type the name directly when in C:\Program Files\LibreOffice\program. add the different LibreOffice executables (Calc, Writer, etc.) to the Allowed list, . Note that 3rd party anti-virus might make files Read Only so you can create a new file but you can’t save it subsequently. Sometimes, you might need to reboot after allowing a program access.
Cheers, Al
Thank you. worked perfectly.
you might have to add the different LibreOffice executables (Calc, Writer, etc.) to the Allowed list
Other executables (like soffice.exe
or calc.exe
) don’t read/write files, and their only job is to launch soffice.bin
with proper command line parameters, so those should not be added to any exclusion lists.
Thank you for the correction. The time it happened to me was quite a while ago and I just added all the executables and I thought I had got it working but maybe I might have just turned off the ransomware setting at the time.
