Libre Office v7.04 Crashes When Saving

i5 10th gen. Windows 10. 1TB SSD That’s all I can add right now

Just LO? Or other programs crash too?

It is only LO. I only use Writer, but I typed a few numbers in Calc and it crashed (shut down) when I tried to save it. I have used LO since v4.xx. I can still retrieve older documents and read them, but that is it. This is the first time this has happened and only on the new computer I got last November. I have Windows Write for small things in the interim

It doesn’t really sound like the symptoms, but it might be your anti-virus.

Allow LibreOffice access to controlled folder

The below numbered list is from Use the Windows Defender Security app to allow specific apps

  1. Open the Windows Security by
selecting the shield icon in the
task bar or searching the start menu
    for Defender.
  2. Select the Virus & threat
    protection
    tile (or the shield
icon on the left menu bar) and then
    select Ransomware protection.
  3. Under the Controlled folder
    access
    section, select Allow an
    app through Controlled folder
    access
  4. Select Add an allowed app and
follow the prompts to add apps. You
    need to allow access to
    soffice.bin

3rd Party Anti-virus

If you do have a third party anti-virus go into settings and then look for something like anti-ransomware or folder protection. Have a look at the blocked apps list, if you see soffice.bin in there change it to Allowed (you might have to read AV help if not obvious). Otherwise go to the Allowed Apps setting and allow soffice.bin, this might not be easy so you might have to add the different LibreOffice executables (Calc, Writer, etc.) to the Allowed list. Note that 3rd party anti-virus might make files Read Only so you can create a new file but you can’t save it subsequently. Sometimes, you might need to reboot after allowing a program access.

One other possibility might be permissions. If the above doesn’t apply then this MS Forums question, Give permissions to files and folders might help.
Cheers, Al

I had a problem logging into my Norton. Norton had to make a change to Internet Explorer which is still included in Windows. I found a way to uninstall IE. I then installed 7.05. Crash problem when saving gone. Not sure which solved the problem, but it was recommended to me to get rid of IE. So I did.

Sometimes anti virus programs offer to “clean up” your computer. This is where real damage can be done. I always refuse such offers as I have had to do clean install of Windows and all programs after such help.

Installing the new version probably fixed the issue. You can open Control Panel, programs and features, and right click on a program to select the Repair option. That might have been all that was needed. Upgrading to 7.0.5 is a good option.

IE is a security risk but unlikely to affect LibreOffice
