Mendeley plugin won't install

I am using Mendeley 1.19.8 and LibreOffice 7.0.5.2. When I try to install the plugin from Mendeley, I get the message -

$UNO_USER_PACKAGES_CACHE/uno_packages/lu13760u9fvl.tmp_/Mendeley-1.19.4.oxt ERROR:unopkg failed.

If I I try to use the extension manager in LibreOffice (using the plugin in the Mendeley directory), I get this message -

…\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\uno_packages\cache\uno_packages\lu13760u9fvl.tmp_\Mendeley-1.19.4.oxt does not exist.

Of course, I realize both of those error messages mention Mendeley 1.9.4 and not 8, but I don’t think that’s the issue. I found that if I installed in while running LibreOffice in safe mode, it looked like it worked and the Mendeley bar appeared in Writer. However, when I clicked on add citation, nothing happened - clicking on any of the buttons had the same lack of a response. I have read the older issues about Mendeley, but they don’t help. Can anybody help?

Thanks in advance.

Hello

I found that if I installed in while running LibreOffice in safe mode, it looked like it worked and the Mendeley bar appeared in Writer.

This is a clear indication that the problem is within your LibreOffice user profile. This is also supported by error message “…\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\uno_packages\cache\uno_packages\lu13760u9fvl.tmp_\Mendeley-1.19.4.oxt does not exist

Option 1 - Remove the ..\uno_packages\cache directory only (minimizes impact on LibreOffice user profile, but requires re-installation of all extensions)

  • Stop Libreoffice
  • Open Windows File Explorer
  • Enter %appdata%\LibreOffice\4\user\uno_packages\ into address bar
  • Delete directory cache
  • Start LibreOffice
  • Install new Mendeley-1.19.8.oxt

If that does not fix the problem, use

Option 2 - Reset LibreOffice user profile performing (requires to repeat all LibeOffice "per-user customization", incl. re-installation of all extensions)

  • Start LibreOffice
  • Start in Safe Mode using Help -> Restart in Safe Mode and confirm the restart using button: Restart
  • Archive your profile expanding Advanced (click on the word Advanced right above Help button) and click Archive User Profile button
  • Select option Reset to factory settings
  • Activate [x] Reset entire user profile
  • Click button Apply Changes and Restart

PS: Just checked to install ..Mendeley Desktop\openOfficePlugin\Mendeley-1.19.8.oxt on Windows 10 test system directly via Extension Manager on LibreOffice

Version: 7.0.5.2 (x64)
Build ID: 64390860c6cd0aca4beafafcfd84613dd9dfb63a
CPU threads: 1; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19042; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_DE); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

with no problems.

Hope that helps.

Your first solution worked perfectly! Thanks!
