I switched to LO but I seem to be locked into Open Office. I can't delete Open Office.

I have an older version of Open Office (ver 8) and could not get it to update. Geek Squad recommended LO, which is a superior system. But my files seem to be stuck in ODT, and I am limited in what I can do.

To be able to help you, it would be important to know which operating system you are working with?

The normal process should be:

[Installation Instructions](https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/install-howto/)

Open Office (ver 8)

There is no such thing as Open Office. The latest version of Apache OpenOffice is 4.1.9. Or do you mean something else?

files seem to be stuck in ODT…

ODT is the native format both for Apache OpenOffice and LibreOffice. Thus, if…

… I am limited in what I can do.

…then hardly any of your problems will be solved by switching to LibreOffice. You probably need another tool that uses another file format.

But my files seem to be stuck in ODT

This sounds like you are

  • Double clicking on your files in your operating systems File Manager
  • and OpenOffice opens the file

It that’s the case, you need to change file association of ODF file types (.ods, .odt, .odp etc…) in your operating system to LibreOffice (which probably now is to OpenOffice).
