I wish to see any backup for my unsaved document interrupted by an unwanted restart forced by Windows

This had happened before I could save the document. Sometime before the interruption I had checked Always Create a Backup Copy in the Save block after Tools > Options > Load/Save > General. Other items in my Save block are as follows: √Save AutoRecovery information every 15 minutes (checked); Edit document properties before saving(unchecked); √Save URLs relative to file system (checked); √Save URLs relative to internet (checked). I did look into Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Paths, and single-left-clicked on the OK button for Backups as well as Temporary Files. Nothing turned up. Please help me. Thank you

If you think a Windows restart broke the setting then does the following fix it?

Untick Always create a backup copy,OK. Close LO and all programs, click Start Menu > Power > Restart. When Windows has restarted, Open LO and tick Always create a backup copy

If you add a word to your dictionary, is it still available in spell check after closing LO and re-opening it?

Using your OS file manager, look in the directory for backups found via Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Paths

I did restart after closing LibreOffice writer but have left intact all the website (URL) tabs across the top of the screen. But first I forgot to untick Always Create Backup Copy. Then I unchecked Always, restarted again, and checked Always. Then in LibreOffice writer I typed a sentence that includes two intentionally misspelled words. There then showed two red serpentine underlines for the two words, but only after a second or two later. I don't know what the OS file manager is in the preceding comment. Thank you.

To restart Windows click Start menu > Power > Restart. Any other way can mean you haven't restarted. If anything is still open afterwards then you haven't restarted, only hibernated.

OS file manager for Windows is File Explorer, WinKey+E .

You'll need to click on Options and enable view Hidden Files.

Backups are stored in the user files, see user profile unless you have changed the location. You can find the path to backup using comment by robleyd.

BTW your title question could use some work to make it mean what you want it to mean. Punctuation could be your friend

I did Start Menu > Power > Restart. What I mean by leaving 'intact all the website (URL) tabs across the top of the screen' is that after I restarted, the chrome will show a small window asking if I want to revive all the tabs, and I clicked Yes. So it did this for me. In the event the small window does not show up, I could click on the three vertical dots in the upper right corner and a dropdown list includes History that, when I point my mouse arrow to it, will show for instance "105 labelled pages." I could click on that to get all the tabs I last left with. I assume you could count that to be an instance of having restarted. But there are still quite a few other things in your comment that I feel over my head and I am just ...(plus)

Chrome browser has nothing to to with LibreOffice. I do wonder why you seem to have over 100 tabs open.

As you mention ,it would probably help if you can get a friend or relative with appropriate computer skills to assist you; we are working blind, as we are unable to see what you see or do,

If you haven't saved a document, then it will not be backed up, because backup, if implemented, occurs during save. Save early, save often.

First you need to be able to see the folder. Second you need to navigate there.

  1. To see the files. Open File Explorer, click View > Options > Change Folder and Search Options. A new dialog box will open, click on the tab labelled View, in the pane below open Hidden folders and files, click the option button Show hidden files, folders, and drives image description
  2. To navigate to the folder you can either follow this path C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\backup which is probably the same as yours except you need to replace UserName with your user name. Or you can press Win+R and paste into the field the following %APPDATA%\libreoffice\4\user\backup to get to the same place. Your backups will often have the extension .bak

Note that you can always do a manual backup by clicking File > Save a Copy every now and then. When saving these copies, you should append the name with date (and time if more than one a day), e.g. MyFile2021-04-16_17-30.ods . This will help prevent overwriting.
