I have been through a forms tutorial. In thinking about reproducing high-quality forms, I find some of the controls somewhat crude. I would like to see very fine control over placement. I would like to be able to reproduce forms such as national tax forms or driving license application.

Where can I find existing examples of finely detailed forms developed with LO?

Is the answer that LibreOffice cannot be used to develop high-quality forms? Someone please tell me I am all wrong.

Complex and ergonomic forms can be created using LibreOffice, however I reckon that there are far fewer examples of such documents due to the adoption rate of LibreOffice in governments and enterprise, which is still relatively low (in other words, it is a question of inertia and habit). Are you looking for more programmability or more styling options?

Thanks for your reply, CyanCG. I am looking for styling at this point. If there is inadequate styling, then programmability will not matter.

The crux is: in theory, the OpenDocument format allows complete styling of form elements, with full generality: ODF’s styling facilities are closely modeled on those of XSL Formatting Objects and CSS. In practice, when using LibreOffice, the interface for styling leaves much to be desired and LibreOffice’s layout engine is far from perfect, so that getting the exact desired layout is often a pain… How will users fill in the forms? In LibreOffice, in a PDF viewer or in a browser?
