I cannot edit my files. Formed as word/rtf files, but show up in Libre

Question has all the details.

Question has all the details.

Really?

  • Which operating system
  • Which LibreOffice version do you use
  • Which application is associated to file extensions .rtf and .doc(x)
  • How do you open the word/rtf files (double click in file manager) ?
  • Did you change the file association when installing LibreOffice
  • Which application do you expect to open these files

In fact I cannot see a question at all - just the fact that files saved as word/rtf files are opened by LibreOffice, which in many cases is, what users of LibreOffice want to happen, if they have abandoned MS Office from their computers.

Open Word Wordpad, Pages, or whatever program you like, click File > Open and navigate to the file you want to open.

If you want to have a particular program open a file from your file manager, then you must follow instructions for whatever operating system you have

Please read the Getting started guide, there are some hints to get answers.

If under Windows, likely a problem with your antivirus, see: Defender Controlled folder access exception for LibreOffice.

The point in using LO is to use its native ODF (.odt for text documents). Forget about .docx, it has not been designed to be interoperable with anything else than MS Office.
