Cloning conditional formatting

  1. I want to apply formatting of a cell
based on a comparison to a cell in
the same row in a different column,
and I want to apply it to all the
    cells in the column
  2. I also want to be able to clone this formatting to new rows added to the spreadsheet with the same relative positioning.
I have tried to create the conditional formatting using a relative reference for the comparison, but when I clone it, the referenced do not change accordingly.

Have you tried the format paintbrush?

Else, try to edit the range of the cells where the conditional formatting has to be applied.

I struggled with that not long ago, there may be better answers.

multiple possibilities:

  1. copy the formatted cell, if necessary adapt the formula and or the formatting conditions,
  2. under format - conditional - manage - edit add the cell(s) which should get the formatting to the range(s) the formatting works on in the bottom row,
  3. there may be more possibilities,
  4. be aware of referencing, referencing cells for conditions can be done relative and absolute ($-red), and is evaluated relative to the upper left cell of the range(s?),
  5. be careful, sometimes the format conditions become scattered if you move or copy cells around …
  6. on creation calc acts with absolute and sheet absolute references (mostly?), change if you need,
