When I start writing a new document, Liberation Serif always comes up as the default font. I work only in Times New Roman. How do I make TNR my default font?
Just start a new, blank document. Change the font for the Default paragraph style to Times New Roman. Save the new file as a template. Then in File - Templates - Manage Templates set it to the Default template. Note that this will not affect existing documents.

In Writer you can click Tools > Options > LibreOffice Writer > Basic Fonts (Western) and change Liberation Serif to Times New Roman for each instance Default and it will change the others except Heading which you will also have to change. The change will alter the default template for new documents
