What is WRONG with the LO Dictionary?! Why are so many words missing?

I want to know why the Canadian English dictionary provided for LibreOffice is so deficient in words?! Lately, I’ve been finding more and more words which, when I type them, are highlighted as being ‘unrecognized,’ and I have to add them manually. Just one example: the word “obdurance.” (Hah! It’s not even recognized HERE on the website!) Oxford has it; which is the authority I use for the English language. Maybe it’s because other dictionaries seem to be deficient as well. There have been several more; which have surprised and frustrated me because they’re words I see elsewhere and yet LO doesn’t know of their existence? How many others have discovered this?

What is WRONG with the LO Dictionary?!

Nothing. Missing words in dictionaries is normal in live volunteer-based projects. Oxford (dictionary, I assume?) can afford much greater resource spent on updating its data than a volunteer; being “frustrated” here is a clear case of wrong expectations. A better approach (and a better question) is “how can I contribute by helping update a dictionary that I care about”.

If it helps, Microsoft Word 2010 does not have obdurance in the dictionary either. Both have obduracy however.

Apparently, you can subscribe to the OED for a mere £100 pa which you can afford because you are using LibreOffice instead of another office suite
