How do I set "no highlighting" as default?

I have paragraph styles configured and they are working fine, until I added the latest one. It has made “highlighting” the default character style for some reason I cannot find where to disable it. The character style is “default”, so I cannot change it, yet when I leave the paragraph style I created, the “default” character style does not have highlighting enabled!!

So, I have a paragraph style that always has highlighting on now, and I cannot seem to find how to disable it.

I cannot find a style (character or paragraph) property ‘highlight’. What do you mean?

Do you record changes for this document?

Thanks for everyone’s help. After hours of trial and error, I deleted the style and re-created it. Highlighting was gone then…

As far as nested styles, I did have it nested with a parent style (I have all of my styles nested to my main style), but none of the others exhibited this problem. Weird!

Thanks for the help.

Have you (inadvertently) linked your newest style to … something? To check, open up your style gallery (F11, or however you do it), and click on the offending paragraph style, then right-click and choose “Modify”. Go to the “Organiser” tab:

What is the style linked with? Can you get rid of the problem here?

@GregOliver - Additionally to very important information @dajare gave you above, I got the impression that you do not use “highlight” but background color. Thus, please check what @dajare adviced and look also into the “Background” tab.
