How do I refer to an entire column in a formula?

In Excel, you can say =MAX(A:A) and it will give the max of the entire column, which will update as numbers are added to the column.

You can also say things like x axis is =Sheet1!A:A and as you add items to that column the chart updates automatically.

How do I do the same things in LibreOffice Calc?
