What is "Streams..." supposed to do in Calc?

In the Data menu in Calc 4.2.4.2, there is an item named Streams…, which in my (Windows 7, x64) installation is always greyed out. The online help, the LO 4.1 Calc Guide and the LO 4.2 Getting Started guide all return zero results when I search for “Streams”, so I can only guess at what it is for.

What is it for? (And where could I have found this information?)
