Pictures gone from openoffice file when opened in Libre. ????

I have ( had? ) a 95 meg Excel / Openoffice calc file I spent 9 years compiling with data. A computer vendor suggested I switch to Libre. Now a lot of my pictures have disappeared, just a blank rectangle. Downloaded Openoffice to see if this was problem, but pics still missing. Am I screwed? If my file is ruined, I don’t need Libre or Openoffice. Any suggestions?

Thanks

What kind of file is it? .xls, .ods, .xlsx? (Given the age of the file probably the first, but it matters a lot in cases like these.)

Sorry for delay, I was out. This spreadsheet started life as .xls but at some point I downloaded openoffice and everything became .ods.

Little more info: My file is about 140 sheets with an average of 8-9 photos per page. When I first “opened” this in Libre I did not see a problem because some pages are fine; others have only about 1/2 the photos. I backed this Libre file up on a stick, and removed the .ods file ( Mistake?? ).

If info is gone, so be it. I can’t replace it. Long story. Thanks
