How can I get embedded sound files in a PPT to play during slideshow?

Hi, I have a very large power point presentation. Each file has also got sound. The sound works when the file is opened in powerpoint. I have opened the file in Libreoffice and I cannot see how to play the sound. When I start from the first slide to play there is no sound either. I read on one forum that the issue might be the way the file is saved or the version of power point that it was saved in. Can anyone throw any insight on the issue for me as if I know it is an issue with the file itself I will look for other options. Thank you for your time.

Please edit your question to indicate: O/S version, LO version, sound file format (MP3, AIFF, WAV, etc.), file format (ODP, PPT, PPTX), and any other details, such as how the file was created, etc. Thanks.

Thank you so much for your help. I also received a response from another email list I found on this website. It solves my problem for now, at least I know I can go back and ask my client to save it in a different format and the sound will work fine. Excellent support forums Thank you for the great software.

Hi I got this reply from Tom

Thank you Tom.

"Hi
The .pptX, .docX and such are notoriously unreliable. The files should all
still have their sound and work properly if you play them using the same
version of MS Office that was used to create them, and on the same OS.
Using a different version of MS Office or any other program can mean the
documents are not displayed properly or function properly.

So, the client can probably play the files just fine.

If you can get back to where-ever the files were created and do
File - “Save As”
to save into the older MS Format (ppt without the X at the end) then those
usually work fine on any relevant software on any platform.

Please try to add the libroffice-avmedia-backend files from your distro’s repositories. They have allowed me and other users to play media files from pptxs.

This one worked for me. I just installed it on Ubuntu using this command : sudo apt install libreoffice-avmedia-backend-gstreamer
