I recently created a long document in which I used cross references to include text from appendices in my document.
If, for example, the appendix had text like this (without quotation marks)
“Licensed Device means the single physical hardware system to which a license is assigned. For purposes of this definition, a hardware partition or blade is considered to be a separate device.”
I would book \mark that text, with a bookmark like “LicensedDeviceDef” then go to Insert Cross Reference, select Cross Reference…, in the Type box select Bookmark, and in the Insert Reference To box select Reference.
When I originally wrote the document this would show the actual text from the reference. Now, after working on this document for four days and doing a final review, the inserted text shows only the bookmark name, like LicensedDeviceDef.
So now, I will spend another day, which I don’t have, copying and pasting the text manually and putting a manual hyperlink in, instead.
Why did this break? I’m using LibreOffice 4.2.5.2?
Discovered the problem. At some point I guess I recently checked “field codes” in Tools/Writer/View, so it was showing the field code rather than the reference text. Unchecked it and it showed the text.
