Is there a way to create a toolbar button for a specific style in Writer?

For example, I might put a button on the Formatting toolbar that would apply the “Quotations” style on a paragraph. It would be even better if that button would show as checked if the paragraph already had that style on it.

I know you can create a keyboard shortcut for a style. I also know about the style manager and the “apply style” combobox. But I’m looking for a way to create a toolbar button for a specific style. This will allow me to quickly choose some commonly used styles (one click instead of two or more clicks with the combobox) without taking up a lot of space on my screen.

Is there was some simple way to do this without having to create a macro?

This is possible as of version 5.4! This question needs to be reopened.

I think the easy way is select “Styles & Formatting” in the Sidebar or with F11 call the “Styles & Formatting window”, and dock it. Please search in the help for “docking windows”.

See for example, Sidebar properties, Styles&Formatting and Navigator.

Yes, I’m aware of the style manager. But, I’m looking for a way to create some buttons for a few styles I find I commonly use.

3 year later and I have to say, as an ebook writer, this would be an indispensable feature. The various ebook formats all prefer styles rather than direct formatting. Maybe it’s time LO devs seriously consider a customizable feature like this.

After heavier searching, I’ve assumed that the silence hear means the answer is “no”. I ended up using macros after all.

This is the answer I would accept, if I could accept my own answer.

A macro is the only possible solution. The toolbar is mainly designed for easy access to directly applied styling options, rather than pre-defined styles. As @mariosv has indicated, the sidebar is where pre-defined styles are offered.
