How do I turn on text wrap in LibreOffice Writer?

Hello,

I just installed your Suite in the hope of using the text wrapping function on the Writer program. What I’m trying to do is use this program while transcribing documents from Amazon Mechanical Turk because they require text wrapping on their documents.

I loaded a document and tried to turn on the text wrap under, Format then Wrap. When I scroll over to the options everything is grayed out. How do I turn it on? Can someone please help me? Thanks for your time.

To help you much more information is needed. Please explain step-by-step what you did and what are the result of each step. It would also be very helpful if you could attach the file to your question.

Format, Wrap is used for picture boxes, text boxes etc. General text wrap should be on by default. Check that the margins aren’t exceeding the page size. Concur with what @ROSt53 requested.

I guess, you mean hyphenation.

Go to (main menu) Tools → Language → Hyphenation.

If it does nothing, probably your document have wrong language set for your text. It’s changed nearby, in Tools → Language, three first sub-menus.

If it’s grayed out, Hyphenation support for your language isn’t installed.

To have it enabled, your LibreOffice must have appropriate dictionary. Generally, there are three per-language dictionaries:

  • dictionary for spell check
  • thesaurus
  • text wrapping dictionary

You need hyphenation dictionary for the language. First place to check for one is extensions.libreoffice.org. If there isn’t one, ask in local communities (forums).

I doubt he meant hyphenation. I just opened Writer and pasted a few paragraphs of ragged test in and would also like to know how to ‘wrap text’. It’s grayed out in Format->Wrap. I want the text to be left and right justified, which I think is the default – unless you paste unjustified text into Writer. Hope this helps. I’ll look further for an answer … Thanks.
