Calc cell background color does nothing

As the post title states, the feature in question exists as a decoration with no purpose or effect on the background color of the cells. Does not perform in kind with OpenOffice or M$ Flurg

You’re reffering to the Toolbarbutton for CellBackColor ?

The left Part of this remembers the last choice you’ve made

• if that was no Fill you will probably see nothing
  In this case you have to click on the Left right side of this Button to trigger a ColorChooser
